Gluten Free Rolled Oats (3 sizes)
Rolled oats make a delicious wholesome breakfast and provides sustained energy for the day. It presents a much healthier alternative to most other processed cereals as oats has a lower glycaemic index, which helps to regulate blood sugar levels and is a good source of dietary fibre.
Oats are technically gluten free since they aren’t a type of wheat, barley, or rye grain, which the three groups of whole grains that naturally contain the protein gluten. Instead of containing gluten, oats actually has a protein called avenins.
What makes Oats Gluten free?
Although oats don’t contain gluten naturally, the more common problem with oats is gluten contamination. This usually occurs in mills where oats are processed along with other grains. For an oat product to be certified as gluten free, the producer has to strictly follow the set standards, from planting all the way to store shelves. People who have a high sensitivity to gluten, will then possibly react to oats that has been contaminated with other gluten products.
Soaking oats overnight can also help to get rid of digestive problems. Like all other whole grains, soaking oats helps reduce anti-nutrients and enzymes that can mess with nutrient absorption and digestion.
